Sandalwood is one of the oldest known materials. The oil is steam distilled from coarsely powdered wood and roots. It is reported to have diuretic and urinary antiseptic properties, helpful in the relief of cystitis and gonorrhoea. It's also beneficial in the treatment of varicose veins and swollen lymph nodes. It has a relaxing effect on the nerves. It is recommended in the treatment of respiratory tract infections. Applied to the skin, it is soothing, cooling and moisturizing.
